A Year of Remembering: The Enduring Legacy of Lynn Kennedy

One year ago, the world lost a faithful servant, a beacon of God’s love and dear friend to many of us. On September 25, 2024, Missionary Lynn Kennedy was called home to be with the Lord, leaving behind a legacy that continues to inspire and impact countless lives. As we mark the one-year anniversary of her passing, we celebrate a life well-lived and a ministry that continues to bear fruit.

Lynn’s journey of faith was marked by a deep commitment to the Great Commission. From Burkina Faso, West Africa, she dedicated her life to prayer, sharing the gospel, planting churches, providing humanitarian aid, and discipling hundreds of pastors and leaders. She faced every difficulty, act of persecution, language barriers, and difficult living conditions with unwavering faith, always trusting in God’s provision and guidance. Her ministry was not just about words, but about actions—demonstrating God’s love through tangible acts of service and compassion.

Beyond her official duties, Lynn Kennedy was a true friend and mentor.  She had a remarkable ability to connect with people from all walks of life, sharing a smile, a kind word, and the hope of Christ. She mentored new missionaries, trained local leaders, and built lasting relationships that transcended cultural and geographical boundaries.  Her impact is still felt today in the lives of those she discipled and the communities she served.

The ministry that Lynn started in 2004, with the Lord’s guidance, continues to thrive. Shattering Darkness Ministries is now under the leadership of her adopted son, Patrice Hien. He continues to lead the pastors and their leaders with competence, character and passion.  As the Shattering Darkness Board of Directors, we are so proud of the work that he and his team are doing!  The vision Lynn planted in the hearts and minds of the Burkina people, has not stopped with her passing. They are passionate about the work that must go on!

As we remember Lynn Kennedy, we are reminded of the profound impact one person can have when they fully surrender their life to the Lord.

Her life was a powerful testimony to the truth of 1 Corinthians 15:58 “Be steadfast, immovable, always abounding in the work of the Lord, knowing that your labor in the Lord is never in vain…”  I know that our prayer and desire is to hear the words from our Lord, that she heard, “Well done, good and faithful servant.”

While we miss her physical presence, we take comfort in knowing she is in the presence of the Savior she loved and served so faithfully.

Let us honor Lynn’s memory by continuing the work she started, with the same passion, faith, and love that defined her life. Her legacy is not just in the past; it is a living, breathing testament to the power of a life dedicated to Christ.
