Matthew 27:22 “Then what shall I do with Jesus, who is called Christ?”
While I was growing up in Pittsburgh, PA, baseball was known as the national pastime. In current days that seems to have changed. Today it seems that “Christian bashing”, and using the Name of the Savior as a curse word has become the “pastime, activity of choice.”
My former pastor tells of a time he and his family were eating at a restaurant. A table of “rowdies” seated next to them was loud, brash, and using the name of Jesus in a very dis-honoring fashion. Brother Jim got up, approached the table, greeted the folks and then said, “I could not help but overhear you from the next table. You have spoken a lot about my very best friend.” They were excited and began at once asking who it was that they knew who was also a friend of his? “My best friend in the entire world is named Jesus.” With that he walked away…and total silence ensued.
“But even if you should suffer for the sake of righteousness, you are blessed. “And do not fear their intimidation and do not be troubled, but sanctify Christ as Lord in your hearts, always being ready to make a defense to everyone who asks you to give an account for the hope that is in you, yet with gentleness and reverence.” (1 Peter 3:14-15)
