“Purposeful Pursuit”; “Absolute Abandon”; “Stunning Surrender”; “Sacrificial Service”

Any of us who have lived a while know what it is like find ourselves in embarrassing situations: Forgetting someone’s name, mis-matching socks, locking our keys inside the car…with the car still running , or perhaps walking out of the grocery store and realizing…we do not remember where we parked the car! Recalling these moments at some future moment might even cause us or others to laugh.

As embarrassing as these or other moments might be, none compare to the following. “And a woman in the city who was a sinner found out that Jesus was reclining at the table in the Pharisee’s house. She brought an alabaster flask of fragrant oil and stood behind Him at His feet, weeping, and began to wash His feet with her tears. She wiped His feet with the hair of her head, kissing them and anointing them with the fragrant oil.” Luke 7: 37-38

A woman “who was a sinner”. This woman knew ahead of time that her reputation preceded her. There was no doubt in her mind others would ridicule and mock her. Yet her remorse over her sinfulness, her love for Jesus, and her need to serve Him was what mattered most.
