Thursday of Passion Week

Mark 14:12a, 17-19 “And on the first day of Unleavened Bread, when the Passover lamb was being sacrificed…Jesus was with the twelve in the evening. And as they were reclining at the table and eating, Jesus said, “Truly I say to you that one of you will betray Me–one who is eating with Me.’ They began to be grieved and to say to Him one by one, ‘Surely not I?’.”

Do we see the poignancy of the question?? Three years with the Master. Three years of witnessing miracles. The dead raised to life. The sick healed. Three years of the Master’s Teachings. Three years of sharing meals and sleeping arrangements. And each one wondered if they were the one who would be the betrayer!
‘Surely not me!’ we say… ‘Surely not…’ ‘Surely…!’ Those closest to our Savior abandoned Him. Denied ever having known Him. Deserted Him. In the face of persecution, ridicule, ‘tolerance’…do we stand tall and firm in our faith?? Or tremble, be silent…and our very silence cries out “CRUCIFY HIM!”
