Dr. Cheryl Decker

Director

My first trip to Burkina was in 2002 with a team from my (then) church-First Baptist Clermont FL. As a physician, I took along my medical bag, just in case of medical emergency, as our group traveled village to village evangelizing with Lynn Kennedy. I was dismayed and overwhelmed by the medical needs of the African people and my supplies were used up quickly. During this trip the Lord told me to ‘stay alongside the missionary’. We were up before dawn to make rounds verifying meeting times, buying bread at the market, girl-talking and sharing our faith stories. Now, many years later I am still staying alongside of Lynn Kennedy and Shattering Darkness.

I have been on the Board of Directors since the inception of Shattering Darkness Ministries. As an emergency medicine trained physician, I lead medical teams to Burkina Faso. We have often partnered with with CMDA’s short term mission organization, Global Health Outreach (GHO). My passion is for malaria treatment and prevention but I am firm in resolve that ‘healing physically for a day is best coupled with God’s healing spiritually for eternity’.

When I am not at my urgent care clinic or the ER, you can find me at my church, The Crossing, or studying God’s Word at Bible Study Fellowship (BSF) or out training for my next triathlon. I share my blessed life with my husband Larry and our 5 cats and 1 dog.
